Farmers from AUDA villages challenge the government; 68 villages merged into AUDA will take out a vehicle rally

The Secretary of Khedut Samaj-Gujarat, Sagar Rabari, has issued a press statement that:

In 2009, GoG through a notification had brought 68 villages (43 villagesof Kaloland 25 from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar talukas) with a total area of 625 sq. kms. (62,500 hectares) into the AUDA boundary. Since then, there is no movement here on the ‘development’ front.

The farmers have today realised that it is nothing but another ploy by the government to appropriate their land in the name of ‘development’.

The benefactors and saviours of the cow want to sacrifice the pastureland for urbanisation. Seeking votes in the name of the cow and destroying gauchars – this is the high stakes game of the government. Panchayati raj institutions have been rendered redundant. The village residential area has been limited and future expansion will be difficult. Cattle rearing as an occupation is endangered.

The experience of so many years has shown that the lands purchased by big industrial houses – Adanis, Arvind Mills etc. – easily gets converted into NA, their plans are just as easily passed and construction also happens in no time while the ordinary farmer is made to run from pillar to post seeking mere change of purpose from A to NA.

If TP schemes of AUDA get implemented they will lose 40% of their land, the village gauchar and wasteland will automatically, at no cost, be claimed by AUDA and nearly 60% of the land so claimed will be sold by the government. This is nothing less than a conspiracy.

The government is not ready to listen to the farmers, forget about accepting their demands. When you raise farmers’ issues, the government diverts attention by labelling them as ‘anti-government’, instigators and provocateurs.

The farmers of this area, under the leadership of Khedut Samaj-Gujarat, met the Chairman of AUDA and the Minister for Urban Development and presented him with a memorandum of demands. But we have not heard back from the government. To make the power-that-be hear their voice the farmers of this area will take out a vehicle – tractor, car, motorcycle – rally on 8th June 2017 at 10 am. The rally will begin from Dabhala chokdi. From here the rally will proceed to Gandhinagar to present their memorandum of demands for withdrawal of the notification to the Chief Minister.

Khedut Samaj-Gujarat appeals to all the farmers of the area, their supporters and sympathisers to join the rally in large numbers. This is not a political programme or a programme of any particular political party and so people joining are requested to do so without their party’s banners. All are requested to join as farmers and their supporters and sympathisers.
