Filmmakers and Censor Board have been logging heads over “censorship” which includes chopping films, banning films and downright insulting filmmakers for talking bolder and sensitive subjects, and Actess Huma Qureshi adds that certification is must but one can’t make draconian law in the name of censorship.

“I think a lot of people have said lots about Censorship Issue, I’ve nothing new to say, but I believe, as far as my understanding goes Censor board’s work is to certify the film, not to ban it or decided who can or cannot watch it”

“Certification of the film is necessary; it happens in west and happens here too, but we can’t make draconian law in the name of censorship, where it is decide what people will watch or not. We’re not a regressive society; I think India culture is very progressive” added Huma.

Censor Board reached new heights when they recently insulted female film producer and refused another female filmmaker certification, this sparked a whole new debate, which is a burning topic in Indian film industry.

Huma adds that she is happy that people are talking about censorship as society needs to have such debates in-order to progress.

“It is important to have these conversations, every few years’ one need to have a dialogue about morality, censorship and laws, it is important because we also keep growing otherwise we won’t be able to grow. I am glad that censorship has become a daily topic of discussion at homes and television because as society if we need to grow, we need to self-reflect” added Huma.

Next Huma Qureshi will be seen in Gurinder Chadha directorial “PARTITION: 1947” which tells us the untold story behind Partition.
