Seven Left parties namely the CPI, the CPI(M), the CPI(ML)-Liberation, the SUCI(C), the AIFB, the RSP and the CGPI have decided to contest the forthcoming MCD elections in Delhi jointly.

The parties have fielded 62 candidates in all the three MCDs (CPI-14, CPI(M)-16, CPI (ML)-Liberation-13, SUCI-C-2, AIFB-16, CGPI-1).

The Left parties are of considered opinion that the two most dependable parties of the Indian Monopoly capitalists in Delhi namely the BJP and Congress are solely responsible for the all pervading crisis in the civic amenities being provided by these three MCDs, the root cause of which lies in the process of privatization-commercialization of civic amenities started initially by the Congress during the nineties of the last century. Fed up with the anti-people policies of these two parties, people expected that the AAP would fulfill the promises made by it to the people before the Assembly polls. But their hopes are belied as they find no fundamental difference between AAP and the other two parties. The policies pursued by Congress are being carried out more vigorously and enthusiastically by the BJP and the AAP to the glee of the corporate houses. AAP too is not opposed to the process of privatization-commercialization of civic amenities which is inimical to the interests of the common people of Delhi.

The rampant contractualisation of the services of Safai Karamcharis, teachers, staff in hospitals and elsewhere in the offices under the MCDs, undue delays in payment of wages (which are far below the minimum wages) to the employees, has not only given rise to mismanagement but also to widespread corruption in these bodies. This has led to deterioration of the services in the fields of health and hygiene, education, sewage, water supply, upkeep of parks, civic amenities in the irregular colonies, tackling the menace of dogs and monkeys, preventive steps against dengue, malaria and chikungunya etc. None of these most dependable parties of the capitalist class are serious in regularizing the so-called irregular/unauthorised colonies.

The Left parties view seriously the design of the ruling parties in dismantling the Juggi-Jonpris without providing the dwellers economically viable alternative sites. The pensions drawn earlier by the old age pensioners, widows and handicapped have also been discontinued driving these people to misery and destitution.

While all these parties are busy in diverting the attention of the people by raising issues not relevant to the lives of the people, the Left parties are striving to build up secular and democratic movement on the issues faced by the people in their day-to-day lives and organize them irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, colour or the region of the country they hail from. By giving tickets to the ‘All New faces’ the BJP has itself accepted the facts that their all sitting councilors are   corrupt and discredited. Similar is the case with the Congress and others where the ‘old’ have taken recourse to an open revolt. In this era of unending and ever deepening crisis, the capitalist system is incapable of producing even a solitary honest and dedicated leader. The Left parties are of the considered opinion that it is only the left, secular and democratic people’s movements which can generate newer and progressive values in the society. They consider the MCD elections as part and parcel of that movement.

To ensure building up of people’s movement against corruption and mismanagement in the MCDs; to regularize the services of the contract and daily wager safai karmcharis and other workers under the three MCDs; to struggle for payment of minimum wages to all the workers under the corporations; for ensuring better health-care, education, sewage and hygiene in Delhi and for freeing the DMCs from the strangle-hold of land and water mafias, property dealers/ builders, the seven Left parties appeal to the people of Delhi to set a new trend by electing Left candidates who have clean reputation and believe in developing secular and democratic people’s movements for resolving the civic problems faced by the people.
