Aligarh, 11 August 2014 : Chief Editor of The Aligarh Movement monthly magazine, Jasim Mohammad has welcomed suggestions of some MPs for awarding Bharat Ratna to the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan this year.
Addressing the media persons on Media Centre Aligarh, Jasim Mohammad pointed out that it was the Aligarh Movement magazine which had launched a sustainable movement in support of awarding Bharat Ratna to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on his birth anniversary last year under the leadership of noted film director Shri Mahaesh Bhatt. He said that Aligarh Movement had also started a signature campaign demanding Bharat Ratna to Sir Syed to be submitted to the Prime Minister of India. He told that in last week eminent Film Actress and Humanist Pooja Bhatt had also signed the demand in New Delhi.
Jasim Mohammad said that though Congress MPs Manish Tiwari and Rashid Alvi have very kindly raised the demand for awarding Bharat Ratna to Sir Syed but the question arises that the Congress has led UPA government in Centre for ten years. Why the Congress failed to do justice with Sir Syed and award him Bharat Ratna during its tenure?
Replying a question, Jasim Mohammad said that Sir Syed established ” Scientific Society ” in India for the first time in 1865 to create a scientific tempered society. He wrote Asbaba-e-Baghawat-e- Hind ( Causes of Mutiny – 1857 ) to highlight the wrong British policies towards their Indian subjects which led to that mutiny. In 1875, Sir Syed established ” Mohammadan Anglo Oriental College ( MAO College ) in Aligarh which became Aligarh Muslim University and is serving the nation through education. Not only that very few people are aware that Sir Syed invited western agricultural scientists to India to train Indian farmers in cultivating their fields by new techniques. He said that all these contributions are enough grounds for awarding Bharat Ratna To Sir Syed.
Jasim Mohammad said that Sir Syed Ahmad Khan , the founder of AMU and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya , the founder of Banaras Hindu University are both important in revolutionising Indian education scene. He said that it will be appropriate that this year Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Pt. M M Malviya both are awarded Bharat Ratna. He appealed to political parties and leaders not to politicise the issue and demand Bharat Ratna for both with one voice.
Thanking the media fir its support in movement for demanding Bharat Ratna for Sir Syed , he appealed that this is right time when media play a positive and vital role and exert its pressure on government to create history by awarding Bharat Ratna to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya to settle the wrongs done by previous governments.
